Founded in 1986, the Golden Disk Awards have since been presented annually by the Music Industry Association of Korea. They strive to showcase distinguished accomplishments in the South Korean music industry each year. EXO recently became grand prize winners for Album of the Year for the third year in a row.
Fans have had much to say about EXO’s style at the 30th Golden Disk Awards. Many of these comments resulted in jokes or even some anger at the stylists for not developing better fashion sensibilities for EXO. Whether you appreciate this look or not it can still be interesting to see where to designs originated from. In this case, almost every item being worn can be found in the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2016 Menswear Collection (here).
Sehun‘s shirt comes from the collection’s look 4 and Baekhyun‘s from look 9. Both utilize a similar blue base with bright red detailing. However Sehun’s takes a more simplistic and zippered approach while Baekhyun’s adds additional birds and the inclusion of a large logo.
Chen‘s jacket can be seen in look 7 where it also uses the same blue base. Similar applique can be seen with the bird design, though this version is kept smaller and less ostentatious. Pizzazz is added through the black and blue paneling on the arm, outlined by more black and white.
Chanyeol’s jacket is arguably the simplest of the bunch, maintaining a deep blue color with only a moderate logo for design. Some white thread is used for detailing but otherwise look 11 remains more clean in its lines and taste.
Suho‘s jacket comes from look 13 while Kai‘s shirt is from look 35. Although Suho’s jacket perpetuates the same red and blue color palette, Kai’s takes a different angle. Similar bird designs are employed but come to be displayed through delicate pinks and yellows.
Xiumin‘s overshirt is a darker version of the one from look 18. This particular piece has been recreated a few times to compliment different looks but can be most clearly viewed in this form. It is another of the more straightforward and quiet pieces, just as D.O.‘s blazer from look 24 hits upon the same notes.
